Back in the Saddle

Hi, i have decided to post all my articles at once, as opposed to spacing them out, and i will begin writing new ones as soon as i am able. Some constructive criticism would be nice, as i am not the best writer. I am a History major so i don't really need to be.

Back in the Saddle

I must apologize for my absence, my pretties. I was too poor to buy comic books and none of my old issues lit the fire underneath me that is necessary for me to write this piece. Recently, though, I have stumbled across the most precious gem in the entire comic book universe: Neil Gaiman’s “Sandman”. Sandman is one of the endless, his name is actually dream. There are other endless, who are his siblings, they represent some of the most basic concepts in human existence. They are Destruction, Destiny, Death, Dream, Desire, Despair, and Delirium. Each maintains control of their own realm. I should not need to tell you what Dream’s domain entails, though he is also the master of stories. Very few of the comics follow a real linear story-line, but rather they tell you a tale that involves Dream in some way, and sometimes some of the other endless as well. This is what makes “Sandman” so interesting. He doesn’t go out and save the world, he acts as lord of the dreaming. That is not to say he doesn’t go on adventures of sorts, you will see Dream run into the likes of Lucifer, Loki, Odin and many other gods and demons.

Okay, this isn’t working. I cannot express to you how amazing “Sandman” is just by telling you what the comic is like. What he does or how he does it. This transcends normal comic book material. The stories I have read within these comics have been some of the most moving pieces of literature I have had the pleasure of setting my eyes on. There have been times where after completing a volume I have been too emotionally drained to go pick up the next volume. Oddly enough, this has always been a good thing. It is, quite simply, the most amazing piece of work I have ever read in my entire life. I am not just referring to comic books either. Of all the novels, comic books, articles, essays, et cetera I have ever gazed on in the whole of my being, “Sandman” has been the absolute most amazing thing I’ve had the pleasure of reading. I am only on volume 9 of the 11 volume re-release. I suggest that you immediately go to your local comic book store, or perhaps Barnes and Noble’s and start on this experience right away. You need to see it for yourself, because I am afraid that I am wholly ineffectual in conveying to you just how incredible this piece of work is. The only thing I suggest is, if you are new to comic books, then wait to read this. Everything else will pale in comparison.
