Giddy Up!
Hail and well met fellow loser. As you know, I love you all. But alas, there is another love in my life, and that love is comic books. So if this relationship is going to continue, then you two need to get to know each other. I’m sure if you just give comic books a chance then we can have a beautiful relationship here. Think about it, 3 people going towards rent and non-stop sex…wait, that’s a triad. Anywho, I imagine many of you have at least seen a comic book or heard one of us slovenly nerds speaking in reverent terms of our favorite comic book hero. I imagine a large portion of you have yourself read a comic book and enjoyed it. For those of you who have read comic books, then this will probably be easier for you to follow, but I will try to go slow this time for all the “newbies” (all gamers laugh….NOW).
I’ve read some interesting titles over the past month and I’m here to share them with you, give you my professional opinion and whatnot. Since I took way too long to write this article I will probably touch on a few comics and then save the rest for next update kiddies. I’ve been reading the Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson run of the Punisher. If you don’t know anything about the Punisher let me enlighten you. Frank Castle is an ex-soldier. A very well trained ex-soldier. His family was murdered by the mob and now he does everything in his power to kill any member of the mob that he can. I’ve caught issues 14-17 thus far. It follows punisher on his never ending quest to do away with organized crime. If you are into violent comics then this is one you would like to pick up. The Punisher has no sympathy for the mob, he kills without mercy. They threw some twists in, in issue 15 a reporter blackmailed the Punisher into taking him along as he killed mobsters. Issues 16 and 17 showed a run in with Wolverine. For Wolverine fans out there, you will probably not enjoy these issues, Garth Ennis despises Wolverine and makes a caricature of all the wolverine clichés, making him out to be a putz. It’s still neat to see the confrontations between the punisher and Wolverine.
Another title you may want to pick up if you are into the darker titles like the punisher is either Daredevil or Marvel Knights. Marvel Knights seems to be mainly a collection of Daredevil, Punisher, and Elektra stories. I recently procured the 1st issue of the new Daredevil/Bullseye miniseries written by Kevin Smith ( cue applause ). It showed the torment of Daredevil of having his love Karen Page tore from him by the maniacal villain Bullseye, whose sole power is that anything he throws becomes a lethal weapon. He could Kill you with a tooth pick at well over 100 yards. For those of you who don’t know Daredevil, he had his sight robbed from him when he pushed an old man out of the way of a truck and in the resulting wreck had radioactive material splash in his eyes. The material also heightened his other senses to supernatural extremes, that coupled with years of dedication and discipline, he has become a finely tuned fighting machine. Like the punisher, daredevil focuses on organized crime. This stems from his father being killed by mobsters after refusing to throw a fight. Matthew Murdock (Daredevil) became enamored with the law from the moment he witnessed his fathers death and has since become a lawyer, fighting crime on two fronts.
